Our story
Why I started CodeCompliance
After more than 10 years in building operations and council documentation, I created CodeCompliance around the work I enjoy most: bringing the right people and information together to help property owners move forward.

I started CodeCompliance because I realised that the part of my job I most enjoyed was also something a lot of people needed help with.
As operations manager for a successful building company, I worked across residential builds, renovations and commercial fit-outs. Clients would often ask me to help with their council paperwork, whether that meant gathering documents from the trades involved, finding out what was still outstanding or getting a submission ready for council.
Our company also took on projects where we were putting right or finishing work carried out by other builders. Those jobs could take a bit of unravelling. There might be information with the original builder, something else with the plumber, and council correspondence that needed to be followed up. Before we could move things forward, someone needed to bring it all together.
I found I was good at that, and I enjoyed doing it. I liked talking to the people involved, working out what was missing and getting things organised so everyone knew what needed to happen next. Following up with tradespeople and working through documentation became a familiar part of my day.
It also gave me an appreciation for how confusing the process can feel from a client's side. When you're dealing with council requirements regularly, you learn who to speak to and what to ask for. When it's your own home and you haven't been through it before, even knowing where to start can be difficult. You might have plenty of paperwork and still have no idea whether you have the document that matters.
Over time, I began to see an opportunity to make this work a business in its own right. After more than 10 years in building operations and council documentation, I had experience I could put to good use, and I knew this was work I wanted to keep doing. CodeCompliance grew from that.
Today, I help property owners across the wider Auckland region work through their council documentation and applications. Sometimes we start with a clear request from council. Other times, the first job is to get the property records and work out where things stand. From there, I can bring in the relevant people, coordinate the information and inspections, and manage the submission and follow-up.
If building work needs to be put right, I can recommend builders I work with. That work is managed separately, while I look after the documentation and council process around it. Keeping those responsibilities clear helps everyone understand their part.
What I enjoy most is being able to help someone who has been unsure what to do next. There is a lot of satisfaction in getting to know their situation, making sense of the information and giving them a clearer way forward. It is work that comes naturally to me, and I care about doing it well.
If you're looking at your property's paperwork and wondering where to begin, you're welcome to get in touch. You don't need to have everything organised first. Complete our enquiry form, tell me what you know so far, and we can take it from there.
